Potato gratin with ham and cheese

An extremely simple dish that can be eaten for breakfast, dinner or any time of the day is scalloped potatoes with ham and cheese. Here we show you a recipe for potatoes au gratin very rich and with few ingredients.

Ingredients to prepare the potatoes

1 kg of white potato.

150 grams of ham (cut into small strips).

250 grams of Manchego cheese (scratched).

100 grams of fried bacon.

Ground pepper to taste.

100 grams of cream cheese.

1 cup of milk cream.

½ cup of milk.

1 tablespoon of powdered chicken consommé.

Salt to taste.

If you can’t find Manchego cheese, gouda cheese or any other cheese that melts well and has a strong flavor can also be substituted. Also note that bacon is optional for the Ham and Cheese Scalloped Potatoes and you can remove it from the recipe if you wish.

Procedure to prepare potatoes au gratin with ham and cheese

Step 1

Sufficient water is boiled with ½ tablespoon of salt and the whole potatoes are introduced and left to cook over medium heat for 15 minutes to extract them and let them cool.

Step 2

In a blender, add the cream cheese, the milk cream and the milk with the tablespoon of chicken broth and blend until smooth and set aside.

Step 3

Once the potatoes are cool, peel them with your hands and slice them into even thin slices for ease of cooking.

Butter a rectangular container, preferably refractory glass, and place a layer of potato slices on the entire base. Covering the surface well, season with pepper to taste.

At this time you should preheat the oven to 180ºC or 350F.

The potatoes are bathed with a little of the blended sauce and covered with the ham, cheese and, if desired, the bacon.

Then another layer of raisins is placed and the process is repeated until the container is filled or until the ingredients are finished.

Cover the container with aluminum foil and place in the oven for about 55 minutes or until soft when inserting a wooden toothpick.

Finally, remove the aluminum foil and leave another 10 minutes in the oven so that the cheese browns on top.
